Staying Safe in the Gay Village This Weekend |
||
|
As the weekend gets underway, The City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Teams Officers are reminding everyone enjoying the Gay Village and the city centre’s night-time economy to look after themselves and their friends. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable night. Please remain vigilant around drink spiking. Never leave your drink unattended, be aware of your surroundings and, if you begin to feel unwell or unusually affected by a drink, seek help from friends, venue staff, security or the police. Stay together. Where possible, arrive and leave with friends, keep an eye out for one another and make sure nobody is left alone or vulnerable when heading home. If you are using a taxi, only get into a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle and check that the appropriate licence is clearly displayed. If you have any concerns, do not get into the vehicle. We are also reminding visitors to keep their mobile phones secure. There has been a high level of phone theft in the city centre, particularly around the night-time economy venues Keep your phone somewhere secure and avoid leaving it on tables, walls or other easily accessible places. In the event of an emergency in the canal water, contact the fire brigade in the first instance, and then inform the nearest bar staff. All bars on canal street now come equipped with a perry line to aid people struggling in water! Most importantly, enjoy your night, look after each other and help us keep the Gay Village a safe and welcoming place for everyone. | ||
