🗣Calling all parents, carers and guardians of young people.
We have seen a recent rise in reports of young people entering building sites, derelict and abandoned buildings, particularly across the Crossgates and Whinmoor ward at Morwick Springs housing development site, and the Old Red Lion public house.
We would kindly request that you speak to any young people in your care and educate them of the dangers of entering such buildings to keep them safe, prevent harm and highlight the potential consequences of being involved in criminality and anti-social behaviour.
Abandoned buildings and building sites can be unstable and unsafe. It only takes one wrong foot for things to go wrong, which could result in serious injury or worse.
Recent reports have highlighted young people lighting fires and causing damage, which not only poses a risk to themselves but to the surrounding communities, along with financial impacts on businesses and increased demands on emergency services.
Police and partners are working together to address community concerns raised, regular patrols are in place, and action will be taken against individuals identified where criminal offences or anti-social behaviour is identified.
