Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner joined the Member of Parliament for Rossendale and Darwen and neighbourhood police officers in Bacup, to hear about the issues affecting the town and the work being done to tackle them. Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and Andy MacNae MP met members of the local policing team in the town centre, discussing ongoing concerns and the action officers are taking to address them. These included anti-social behaviour in the area and the different options to address local concerns through Operation Centurion. The issues of retail crime and other types of offending that Lancashire Constabulary is tackling across Rossendale and Darwen were also discussed and how partners can work together to help deliver positive results for residents. They also discussed how investment through the Commissioner’s Community Fund is helping to prevent crime and keep people safe across the Constituency. Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire said: “Getting out on the beat with officers and Lancashire’s Members of Parliament is a great opportunity to hear directly what issues officers and the community is facing, and it was great to talk with Andy and members of the local policing team about what we can do to make Bacup and the other areas in his Constituency safer. “It was clear that local officers are passionate about making a difference here in Bacup and in the wider area, with their drive and enthusiasm to protect the public and address local concerns coming through as we walked the beat and talked to members of the public. “As Police and Crime Commissioner, I remain committed to working closely with the Chief Constable to ensure town centres like Chorley continue to receive the level of policing needed to continue to drive down crime. This includes tackling anti-social behaviour through Operation Centurion and addressing shoplifting and retail crime through Operation Vulture.” Andy MacNae MP said: “Many thanks to Clive for coming out to Bacup, and to the neighbourhood policing team for walking the beat with us. Our local officers really know their towns, and that came through in every conversation we had on the street. “Anti-social behaviour and shoplifting are concerns raised with me regularly by residents and traders, so it was good to hear how Operation Centurion and Operation Vulture are tackling them, and to talk about what more we can do together. “Bacup’s town centre should be a place where people feel safe to shop, work and spend time. I’ll keep working with Clive, the local policing team and our partners so that Bacup, along with every town across Rossendale and Darwen, gets the attention it needs.”
