Good afternoon, As the academic year begins, students return to university and the evenings get darker GMP is reminding all residents that this time of year can see an increase in the number of residential burglaries committed in your community. Whilst we have had planned activity ongoing for the last few weeks in order to prevent a burglary increase , there are things that each of you can do to help prevent crime.
Taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference in keeping you, your housemates, and your belongings safe: Always lock your doors and windows when you leave, even if you’re only stepping out for a few minutes. Sometimes this is all it takes. Don’t allow strangers into your accommodation and ensure that communal doors are closed securely behind you. Tailgating into buildings is a common tactic used by offenders.Keep your keys safe and avoid leaving them in obvious places or lending them to others. Keep valuables out of sight, particularly near windows, doors and letterboxes. Consider registering your property at www.immobilise.com to help police identify and return recovered items. Make your accommodation look occupied when you’re out – using lights and timers can help deter potential burglars.Look out for your neighbours and housemates. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and REPORT IT.
If you have any questions or would like further crime prevention advice, please get in touch. We are happy to message you direct or come to visit you and your neighbours.
Thanks
