Vehicle Crime Prevention – Don't Give Thieves an Easy Ride

Vehicle crime can happen anywhere, but there are some simple steps you can take to make your vehicle a much less attractive target.

Help keep your vehicle safe by:

Always locking your vehicle and checking it has actually locked before walking away. Vehicles left unlocked are an easy opportunity for thieves.

Closing all windows and sunroofs to prevent criminals reaching inside or "fishing" for valuables.

Removing valuables from sight, including phones, handbags, wallets, tools, and loose change. If possible, take them with you.

Removing sat-navs and electronics and clearing away cables, holders and suction marks which may suggest valuable items are hidden in the vehicle.

Using security screws on number plates and locking wheel nuts to make it harder for thieves to steal parts from your vehicle.

Securing tools and equipment in vans, which are often targeted by criminals looking for valuable items.

Remember, thieves are often looking for the easiest opportunity. Taking a few seconds to lock up and remove valuables could save you the inconvenience and expense of becoming a victim of crime.
