From Immigration Bail to Child Safeguarding: PGT Cover All Bases

The Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team have continued their proactive patrols across the city centre, making four arrests during another busy evening of enforcement and safeguarding activity.

PC Duffy arrested a male adult from Ethiopia on suspicion of breaching his immigration bail conditions, ensuring the matter could be dealt with by the appropriate authorities.

PC Micklewright also had a successful shift, locking up a prolific female adult offender who had breached a Community Protection Notice prohibiting her from entering Piccadilly Gardens.

PC Zamecnik meanwhile arrested a male adult found in possession of cannabis. Checks also revealed that he was allegedly in breach of court-imposed bail conditions.

The evening was rounded off by PC Lomax, who arrested a female adult after witnessing her in Piccadilly Gardens with a teenage child.

The woman had previously been served with a Child Abduction Warning Notice preventing her from having contact with the child. Having observed her with the teenager, as well as other children in the Gardens, PC Lomax acted swiftly and arrested her on suspicion of child abduction.

The woman will be interviewed by specialist officers in the morning, with safeguarding enquiries continuing.

The arrest comes as GMP continues its significant focus on protecting vulnerable young people in and around Piccadilly Gardens.

Sergeant Jon Wyatt, who leads the Piccadilly Gardens Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“Our commitment to safeguarding children in Piccadilly Gardens is absolute. Our officers know the area, they know the people who use it and, importantly, they know when something doesn’t look right.

“Tonight’s arrests demonstrate the breadth of work our team deals with every day. We will continue to use our powers to disrupt those who pose a risk, while working closely with specialist colleagues and partner agencies to make sure vulnerable children are identified and protected.

“Piccadilly Gardens should be a place where young people can feel safe. Our officers will continue to be visible, proactive and absolutely relentless in pursuing anyone who puts them at risk.”

The team will continue its patrols across Piccadilly Gardens, combining enforcement with engagement and safeguarding activity to help make the area safer for those who live, work and visit the city centre.
