Community Update - Policing Response to Suspected Moped Enabled Crime

Dear residents,

We wanted to provide you with an update following a successful police response in Richmond.

Residents have previously raised concerns with us regarding moped riders wearing balaclavas and the risk of mobile phone snatch thefts. We want to reassure our community that we are aware of these concerns and are actively working to address the issues that matter to local residents.

Officers were alerted to two mopeds whose riders were wearing balaclavas, travelling from the Teddington Lock area towards Queen’s Road and Richmond Park. The riders were suspected of being involved in moped-enabled crime, potentially including mobile phone theft.

Through a joint effort between Response Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers, police tailed both mopeds to Richmond Park and took action. One person was arrested, while a second person unfortunately made off from officers. Enquiries are ongoing.

This positive outcome demonstrates the concerns raised by our community are being taken seriously. Your local officers continue to actively patrol the area, respond to reports and work with colleagues to disrupt those suspected of committing crime.
