Join our community scrutiny panels

Do you want to have your say on police encounters and the use of police powers?

We are looking for new volunteers to join our independent scrutiny panels, including Stop and Search and Use of Force.

As a panel member, you will play an important role in providing independent community scrutiny of police interactions with the public. You will review real cases, including Body Worn Video footage, and share your views on whether officers acted fairly, respectfully, and in line with legislation and policy.

A Stop and Search is an encounter where a police officer uses legal powers to stop a person and search them, their belongings, or a vehicle.

A Use of Force incident is any interaction where a police officer uses physical force, restraint, or other tactical options while carrying out their duties.

As a panel member, you will help review these encounters and support efforts to ensure police powers are used fairly, proportionately, and respectfully.

Your feedback and observations are shared directly with Nottinghamshire Police, helping to shape policing practices, enhance accountability and transparency, and strengthen trust and confidence between the police and the communities they serve.

The panels meet quarterly, and members may also have opportunities to observe officer safety training to develop their understanding of police interactions with the public.

Scrutiny panels are one of the ways the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner scrutinise policing services on behalf of the public.
