#SafetyMessage | We’re aware of recent posts circulating on social media encouraging people to visit #CannockChase at night with torches to watch the deer during the rut.  

Our advice is simple: please don’t do this.

During the rutting season, deer can become highly aggressive. Approaching them in the dark, especially with bright lights, puts you, your group, and the animals at risk. 

🦌 Deer may become aggressive if they feel threatened, which can cause serious injury.  

🔦 Bright torches and close human presence can spook the animals, causing them to bolt unexpectedly.  

🚘 Startled deer are far more likely to run onto nearby roads, creating danger for motorists and wildlife alike.  

We ask the public to act responsibly and avoid disturbing the deer at night. If you wish to enjoy Cannock Chase’s wildlife, please do so safely, at a distance, and during daylight hours.
