Local Priorities Violence against women and girls Message

I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

On Saturday night, officers from Camden Safer Neighbourhoods conducted a proactive operation across the borough as part of Freshers’ Week activity, focusing on private hire vehicles (minicabs) operating within the night-time economy.

Throughout the evening, officers stopped and engaged with numerous private hire drivers, carrying out checks to ensure they held the appropriate TfL licences, insurance, and documentation required to operate legally.

We are pleased to report that all vehicles checked were correctly licensed and insured. Whilst no offences were identified, two drivers were provided with words of advice and education regarding the standard of their driving.

As thousands of students and visitors enjoy Camden's nightlife during Freshers’ Week, we are committed to ensuring journeys home are as safe as possible.

Crime Prevention Advice

When travelling by private hire vehicle:

✅ Always book through a licensed operator or recognised app.
✅ Check the vehicle and driver details match those provided in your booking.
✅ Share your journey details with friends where possible.
✅ Never get into a vehicle that you have not booked.

Remember: "If it's not booked, it's just a stranger's car."

These operations will continue throughout the year as we work with partners to keep Camden safe.
