Hate Crime Has No Place on Our Buses

Everyone deserves to feel safe when travelling. Hate crime can have a devastating impact on victims and communities, and it will not be tolerated.

A hate crime is any criminal offence perceived by the victim, or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person's race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or transgender identity.

If you experience or witness hate crime on a bus:

-Move to a safe place if possible
-Tell the driver or a member of staff
-Make a note of what happened, including descriptions of those involved, the bus route, time and location
-Save any photos, videos or messages that may help as evidence
-Report it to the police on 101, online, or call 999 if there is an immediate danger

If you witness hate crime, your actions can make a difference. Check on the victim if it is safe to do so, offer reassurance, and encourage them to report the incident.

Most buses are equipped with CCTV, so reporting incidents promptly gives us the best opportunity to secure vital evidence and take appropriate enforcement action against those responsible.
