We’re reminding residents to remain vigilant to courier fraud following an incident last week in Wymondham.
Between 22-25 September a member of the public was contacted by scammers pretending to be police officers, saying that the victim had been involved with money fraud and they were encouraged to contact their bank to confirm the story.
Unfortunately, the fraudsters were able to intercept the call, and the victim was then encouraged to withdraw large amounts of money from their bank to a courier. Unfortunately, the attempt was successful, and the victim has lost £14,000.
⚠️ We would like to remind you that your bank or the police will NEVER ask for your PIN, bank card or bank account details over the phone. Never share these details with anyone. ⚠️
If you receive a call from an officer and wish to check their identity, we advise hanging up and calling 101- ideally from a different phone. An officer will never mind waiting for you to check their identity via the control room.
