🚗 Vehicle Security Advice – Please Check Your Car is Secure

We are reminding residents to remain vigilant following reports of individuals trying car door handles in the local area.

Opportunistic thieves will often target vehicles that have simply been left unlocked. Taking a few extra precautions can significantly reduce your chances of becoming a victim of vehicle crime.

🔐 Help protect your vehicle

Always lock your vehicle, even when it is parked on your driveway or you are only leaving it for a short time.

Double-check that your vehicle has actually locked before walking away. If your wing mirrors automatically fold when the vehicle is locked, check that they have folded in.

Close all windows and the sunroof fully whenever the vehicle is unattended.

Remove valuables from your vehicle. Do not leave wallets, handbags, phones, cash or other attractive items on display.

Remove signs that valuables may be inside, such as charging cables, sat-nav mounts or suction marks on the windscreen.

Keep vehicle keys out of sight and away from doors and windows when at home.

If your vehicle has keyless entry, keep the key and spare key away from the vehicle and consider using a signal-blocking/Faraday pouch. Check periodically that the pouch is still blocking the signal effectively.

Where possible, park in a well-lit and secure location and consider additional physical vehicle security.

👀 Seen something suspicious?

If you see someone trying vehicle door handles, looking into vehicles or behaving suspiciously around parked cars, please report it. Details such as clothing descriptions, direction of travel, vehicle registrations and CCTV or doorbell footage may assist police enquiries.

If a crime is taking place right now, or there is an immediate risk, call 999.

For non-emergency incidents, report online via the Staffordshire Police website or call 101.

Please remain vigilant and encourage neighbours, friends and family to check that their vehicles are secure.
