I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Speed Enforcement Activity in Gainsborough
On 22 September 2026, PCSO Felstead-Solley and PCSO Patchett conducted proactive speed enforcement checks on Foxby Lane, Gainsborough, in response to community concerns regarding vehicle speeds in the area.
During the operation, one vehicle was recorded travelling at 39mph in a 30mph speed limit zone. The driver was subsequently stopped and issued with a traffic offence report.
A second vehicle was recorded travelling at 35mph in the 30mph zone. Following enquiries, and after confirming that no further offences were identified in relation to either the driver or vehicle, it was deemed proportionate to provide the driver with words of advice regarding their speed and road safety responsibilities.
--- Why Speed Matters ---
Excess speed remains one of the leading contributory factors in serious and fatal road traffic collisions. According to the Department for Transport, 1,538 people lost their lives on the UK's roads in 2025.
Research also shows that around two-thirds of injury collisions occur on roads with speed limits of 30mph or below, the very roads where pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users are most likely to be present.
Even a small increase in speed can have devastating consequences. The stopping distance of a vehicle travelling at 35mph is significantly greater than one travelling at 30mph, reducing a driver's ability to react to hazards and increasing the severity of any collision.
We would like to thank the majority of motorists who drive responsibly and within the speed limit. Speed enforcement activity will continue across the district to improve road safety and help protect all road users.
