Community Safety Message – Darker Nights

Good morning, 

As we move further into autumn and the evenings become darker earlier, residents are reminded to take extra precautions to protect themselves, their homes and their vehicles. Greater Manchester Police highlights that darker nights can provide opportunistic criminals with cover to commit offences such as burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

There are some simple steps we can all take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

• Always lock your vehicle and remove valuables from sight.
• Double-check doors and windows are secure before leaving your home or vehicle unattended.
• Consider using exterior lighting, alarms, CCTV or other security measures where possible.
• Stay aware of your surroundings when out during the darker evenings.
• Report any suspicious activity as soon as possible.

Our neighbourhood teams will continue to patrol local communities, but your vigilance and information are invaluable in helping us identify and tackle criminal activity. If you see anything suspicious, please report it via 101, online through the GMP website, or 999 in an emergency. 

Residents are also encouraged to sign up to Bee in the Loop to receive updates from their local neighbourhood policing team and stay informed about issues affecting their area so please spread the word.
