Weekly round-up from your local Neighbourhood Team

Hello Residents of Bordesley Green

It certainly has been a busy week for our Neighbourhood Team over the last 6 days. Let’s take a look back at the work we have been doing to help keep the community safe…

Multi-Agency Event: Your local neighbourhood officers have collaborated with Trading Standards and attended a local 24 hour convenience store. Following a thorough investigation, 2 individuals linked to the store have been arrested. 1 individual was later released with no further action, but the second individual has been charged with the possession of an offensive weapon. In addition to this, the store faces consequences for selling illegal cigarettes. What a fantastic result!

Stop & Searches: After reports of an arson, Bordesley Green Neighbourhood Team were quickly on the scene. 2 individuals were detained and stop searched by officers. This matter was resolved with a positive outcome and referrals were completed where necessary.

Now let's move onto crimes of note…

Arson (not endangering life): We have seen an increase in Arson’s that have been reported in Bordesley Green. Arson is defined as the deliberation setting of a fire which causes damage to private/public property. Arson can also cause harm to others and has a long lasting impact on the community. We have not had any reports indicating anyone was hurt, but nonetheless it is important to discuss. We are asking the community to keep the police informed – please report any suspicious activity in your local area where you think that someone is going to start a fire. 

Theft of a Motor Vehicle: We have seen some reports of motor vehicle thefts within the local community. This is another serious offence which can have a significant impact on someone’s financial circumstances and sense of security. In addition to this, vehicle crime offenders can sometimes steal cars/motorbikes to commit further offences. Please continue to check vehicles are locked and secured; consider additional security measures such as a wheel lock, adding a hidden tracker on the vehicle and ensuring all valuables are not stored/left unattended inside.

Residential Burglary: There have been reports of residential burglaries within Bordesley Green. A burglary is when an offender enters a premises without permission, and causes harm to others inside, steals items, or causes criminal damage. Someone can also commit an offence if they are caught attempting to commit burglary. There are many ways to secure your home, including making sure all doors/windows are locked when away from home or at night. CCTV and lighting can also help deter thieves from targeting your property.

Theft of Parcels: There have been an increase in theft of parcels in the local area of Bordesley Green. It has been occurring when parcels have been dropped off at a customer’s doorstep, which creates an opportunity for theft. When ordering items online, ensure that a nominates safe place or trusted neighbour is selected so that the items can be kept secure. Additionally, consider getting CCTV to cover the address so that thieves are further deterred from trying to steal parcels.

Lastly, let’s highlight a familiar issue that is important to note – Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB).

As summer is drawing to a close, and schools are starting up again, it is expected that young people will be socialising in larger groups after school. This can include congregating at any local high streets or parks. This in itself is completely fine and can be a great way for them to enjoy the after-school day. But sometimes this environment can lead to young people engaging in acts of ASB. This can include using profane language in public, lots of shouting, playing loud music, and generally disturbing those around them who want to get on with their day. If this behaviour is reported to us, then we will look to take action where it is necessary. This can also include working with the local council to identify and deal with people who are engaging in ASB. 

For any parent readers, please continue to be aware of where your children are when they are unsupervised and know what they are doing. This is especially important at night or after school. 

For the public, feel free to contact the local council for any ASB you witness and if you see any concerning behaviour, consider contacting the police as well. We can always make assessments and work with the council to achieve the best possible outcome.
