#TRIBUTE | Officers who have been leading an investigation into human remains found close to the M67 in Tameside, can now confirm the identity of the person who was found under the bridge as 41-year-old Ajani Campbell from Preston, who was reported missing in January 2026.

We were called shortly after 11pm on Monday 3 August 2026 after bridge inspectors, working on the railway bridge over the M67 in Hyde, discovered a skeleton at the bottom of the concrete embankment.

There were no personal belongings or other items located with the remains that could assist officers in establishing his identity.

From there, a forensic post-mortem was carried out, and a bone was sent for examination. DNA was extracted from the bone, and the remains were identified as 41-year-old Ajani Campbell.

Our thoughts remain with Ajani's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. They have paid tribute to Ajani as a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Our investigation remains ongoing and we are appealing for information to help us build a timeline of Ajani's movements after he was last seen. He is tracked into the city centre and captured on CCTV footage at 1.48am on Deansgate at the junction with Quay Street on Sunday 25 January 2026.
