Boy in hospital after incident in Abbeydale - witness/footage request

A teenage boy is in hospital after an incident in Abbeydale on Sunday night (20 September) and we are appealing for witnesses.

At around 9pm we were contacted by the ambulance service with a report a child was in a serious condition on Wheatway.

He was taken to hospital by paramedics, and he has remained there since in a serious but stable condition.

Enquiries have been taking place to establish what happened, and police are keen to hear from anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation.

It is understood that the boy, aged 16, had been with two other boys in the area of Morrisons car park on Heron Way at around 8.40pm on their bikes and e-scooters. 

A second group of boys, who were also on bikes, are understood to have then followed the first group.

As the first group rode away, it is understood that one of the boys fell from his bike and emergency services were called.

Some of the boys then left in the direction of Brae Walk.

Investigating officers are trying to establish what happened at the time of the fall and whether any criminal offences have been committed.

Four boys have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the investigation.

One who was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) has since been released on police bail and three others who were arrested today (Wednesday) remain in custody for questioning. 

Police would like to hear from anyone who knows what happened, saw the incident or from anyone who has any CCTV or doorbell footage which could assist the investigation.

It is believed the group had travelled on The Wheatridge, Wheatway and Heron Way.
