I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti-social behaviour - general, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. 🚔⚡ Electric Bikes, E-Scooters & Keeping Our Community Safe ⚡🚔
Hello residents of Lordswood and Walderslade,
Your local Beat Officer continues to tackle crime, antisocial behaviour, and carry out high-visibility patrols across the area to keep our communities safe.
Recently, while addressing reports of young people riding electric bikes and e-scooters carelessly and dangerously, the local Beat Officer attempted to seize an illegally used electric bike under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act. The rider was spoken to, and the legislation and reasons for the seizure were being explained.
Unfortunately, during this process, a parent attended the scene and became aggressive towards the officer, not allowing him the opportunity to explain the situation or the legal process. The officer was subsequently assaulted while carrying out his lawful duties.
Despite being assaulted, the officer remained professional, retained control of the bike, successfully seized it, and prevented it from being ridden away. The male responsible for the assault was also arrested by the beat officer.
💪 Let this be a reminder that being assaulted will not deter your local policing team. We will continue to patrol our neighbourhoods, tackle antisocial behaviour, and take action where offences are being committed.
❗ Nobody should come to work and face assault, intimidation, or fear for their safety simply for doing their job. Our officers are here to protect and serve the community, and assaults on emergency workers will always be taken seriously.
⚠️ A Message to Parents and Guardians
Please speak with your children about the rules surrounding electric bikes and e-scooters.
Many electric bikes and e-scooters being ridden on public roads are illegal if they: 🔹 Have a throttle that powers the bike without pedalling
🔹 Can exceed 15.5 mph (25 km/h) under motor power
🔹 Are being ridden without the required insurance, licence, registration, or legal exemptions
🚨 If it's essentially a motor vehicle, it must meet legal requirements before being used on a public road.
The Friendly Reminder Bit...
If your child tells you their electric bike is "totally legal" because their mate said so... it might be worth a second look!
A quick conversation at home could save:
✅ A bike being seized
✅ A fine or prosecution
✅ An unexpected trip to collect a bike from police storage

- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account.
