Signs of Financial Abuse: What to Look Out For Financial abuse is a form of domestic abuse where one person uses money or finances to control, exploit, or limit another person's independence. It's often less visible than physical abuse but can have a devastating impact on someone's ability to leave an unhealthy relationship.
Common Signs of Financial Abuse 💷 A partner controls all household money and refuses access to bank accounts. 💳 Someone is forced to account for every penny they spend. 🚫 A person is prevented from working, studying, or earning their own income. 📱 Access to online banking, cards, or financial information is restricted. 📝 Loans, credit cards, or contracts are taken out in someone's name without their knowledge or consent. 🛒 A person is given an "allowance" and has no say over household finances. 🔑 Important financial documents, bank cards, or identification are withheld. 🏠 Someone is forced to hand over wages, benefits, or savings. 💸 A partner deliberately builds up debt in another person's name.
