Chadderton and Werneth Neighbourhood Team Delivers Results During Proactive Road Safety Operation

Officers from the Chadderton and Werneth, Failsworth and Medlock Vale Neighbourhood Policing Teams have delivered another successful proactive operation aimed at tackling crime, improving road safety and protecting local communities across Oldham.

Working a dedicated policing operation across Chadderton, Fitton Hill, Medlock Vale, Failsworth and Werneth, neighbourhood officers conducted targeted activity focusing on road traffic offences, wanted offenders and criminality affecting local residents.

During the operation, officers achieved the following results:

The operation forms part of Greater Manchester Police's ongoing commitment to keeping roads safe, disrupting criminality and responding to concerns raised by local communities.

One of the standout moments of the evening came when officers assisted in the search for an 89-year-old man living with dementia who had been reported missing from his home in Shaw.

Following information that the man may have boarded a bus travelling through the area, neighbourhood and response officers worked together to locate and stop buses operating on the relevant route. Their persistence paid off when the missing man was safely found and reunited with his family and carers.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Tom Layton said:

"This operation demonstrates the wide-ranging role neighbourhood officers play in keeping our communities safe. Through proactive patrols and targeted enforcement, officers were able to identify offenders, deal with dangerous driving and gather intelligence that will support future investigations.

Whilst the enforcement activity produced excellent results, the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the safe location of a vulnerable missing gentleman. Finding him quickly and returning him safely to his family is something every officer involved should be proud of.
