City Centre Neighbourhood Team on Patrol – Listening, Engaging and Taking Action

Officers from B Relief - City Centre Neighbourhood Team based at the Town Hall, have been out across city centre, specially around Northern Quarter, Village and Ancoats today, engaging with residents, supporting local businesses, and focusing on keeping the area safe. The team carried out high‑visibility patrols throughout the day, speaking with shop owners, hospitality venues, and people visiting the city centre, ensuring concerns around Anti-social behaviour, street crime, and safety were listened to and acted upon.

Throughout the day, officers carried out several stop‑and‑searches where grounds were established, and a number of these resulted in positive outcomes. During patrols, PC Sutcliffe recognised a male who is subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order preventing him from entering the area. Thanks to his local knowledge, the male was quickly detained and arrested for breaching the order. He has since been charged and remanded to appear at the next available court date, providing reassurance to businesses who have repeatedly reported issues linked to him.
 

A short time later, PC Macreath‑Smith observed a group of males whose behaviour raised concerns. After speaking with them and conducting a stop‑and‑search, one male was found in possession of stolen items. He was arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods, and the property has now been recovered.
 

Elsewhere in the Northern Quarter, PC Hunt and PC Butler stopped a male acting suspiciously. A search revealed an offensive weapon, and he was arrested and remains in custody while enquiries continue. Officers will continue to work closely with partners to ensure weapons are removed from the streets and those carrying them are dealt with robustly.

During evening patrols, PC Marshall encountered a male who attempted to run from officers. He was safely detained and later arrested for immigration offences following checks with partner agencies. This outcome highlights the importance of proactive patrols and the value of officers being present and engaged within the community.

Today’s activity reflects our ongoing commitment to reducing crime, supporting local businesses, and keeping residents safe. Officers will continue to maintain a visible presence across Manchester City Centre, listening to concerns and taking swift action when needed.
