Priority 1

To support City Centre businesses with retail crime and tackle perpetrators 

 YOU SAID: 

-Retail crime effects shopping areas of the City Centre and you would like to see action to tackle this and support our retailers.

*SEPTEMBER UPDATE*

WE DID:

-Our neighbourhood team continues to work closely with retailers, businesses and partners to tackle retail crime, anti-social behaviour and persistent offending across the city centre. Officers have carried out regular high-visibility patrols at both the Haymarket and Highcross Shopping Centres, providing reassurance to staff, shoppers and businesses while proactively identifying offenders and addressing anti-social behaviour.

-We have continued to strengthen our relationships with the retail community through targeted business engagement visits. Enhanced retail crime visits are scheduled with Tesco and Urban Outfitters, while ongoing work continues to support Sainsbury's and other city centre retailers in preventing theft and improving store security.

Our dedicated retail crime team has worked tirelessly to identify and bring prolific offenders to justice. To date, more than 20 prolific offenders have been identified and charged with multiple offences, helping to reduce repeat offending and protect businesses from crime.

-We remain committed to using Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) to place robust restrictions on those causing the most harm. This month, a further four CBO applications have been submitted to the courts, with two CBOs successfully granted, giving officers additional powers to prevent further offending and support victims and businesses.

-Over this period PC Dean has issued 52 young people with warning notices starting them on incremental approach that effects our retail partners as well as the wider community

Priority 2

To tackle vehicle related crime and anti-social behaviour in the City Centre

YOU SAID: 

-You want to visit the City Centre and not experience vehicle anti-social behaviour. You are concerned about motor vehicles committing driving offences and causing parking issues in the City Centre.

*SEPTEMBER UPDATE*

WE DID:

-Operation Pedalfast continues to tackle the illegal use of e-scooters and non-EAPC compliant e-bikes across the city centre. Through proactive patrols and targeted enforcement, officers have now seized 956 vehicles, helping to improve safety for pedestrians and other road users.

-Officers have maintained a visible presence across the city centre, carrying out regular patrols in known hotspot locations and taking positive action to tackle vehicle-related crime, anti-social driving, and road traffic offences.

-We have also continued our work with cyclists through the BikeRegister scheme. Officers have delivered 15 BikeRegister events, helping members of the public protect their bikes against theft. BikeRegister enables police to quickly identify recovered bicycles and return them to their rightful owners, while its visible security markings act as a deterrent to offenders and support investigations into cycle crime.

-Our neighbourhood teams remain committed to addressing the issues that matter most to local residents, businesses and visitors. Through a combination of high-visibility patrols, enforcement activity and community engagement, we will continue working to make the city centre a safer place for everyone.

To tackle anti-social behaviour in the area of Granby Street, Belvior Street and Town Hall Square

 YOU SAID: 

-You want to enjoy the Town Hall Square, Granby Street, Belvior and surrounding area but ASB caused by people and vehicles prevents this.

*SEPTEMBER UPDATE*

WE DID:

-We continue to work closely with partners and the local community to address anti-social behaviour, drug-related offending and environmental concerns in and around Town Hall Square.

-Over recent months, officers have maintained a visible presence through regular patrols, engagement with members of the public and proactive enforcement activity. This approach has helped reduce reports of anti-social behaviour and improve confidence within the area.

-Our dedicated efforts to tackle drug-related crime have continued, with officers using stop and search powers where appropriate and taking positive action against those involved in criminality. This month, two further individuals have been charged with possession of Class B drugs, demonstrating our commitment to tackling offending and keeping the area safe.

-The team has also continued its partnership work to improve the locality. Following a survey by our Designing Out Crime team, we are working alongside Leicester City Council to identify long-term environmental improvements that will help deter crime and anti-social behaviour.

-Officers recently visited a business in the area as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected drug supply activity, resulting in a significant seizure of products and further disruption of criminal activity within the city centre. Alongside enforcement, we remain committed to maintaining regular patrols in the area, engaging with local businesses, residents and visitors, and addressing concerns raised by the community.
