Fraud Prevention Community Engagement Events
Over the past two days, PCSO Sethi, PCSO Alfred, and PCSO Aleem have delivered fraud prevention and scam awareness sessions to two separate community groups at the Cardinal Heenan Centre, working alongside the DAWN Group (Disabled Asian Women's Network). The presentations focused on raising awareness of current fraud trends, including bank impersonation scams, parcel delivery fraud, online marketplace scams, and the increasingly common "Hi Mum/Hi Dad" scam. Attendees were provided with practical advice on how to identify the warning signs of fraud, protect their personal and financial information, and take appropriate action if they believe they have been targeted.
Throughout the sessions, officers promoted the national Stop, Challenge, Protect message, encouraging residents to take a moment to verify requests before sharing personal information or sending money.
Both events were very well attended and warmly received, with participants actively engaging in discussions, sharing their experiences, and asking questions about fraud prevention. The advice provided was greatly appreciated by all those present, with many attendees expressing that they felt more confident in recognising and reporting fraudulent activity.
We would like to thank the DAWN Group and everyone who attended for their participation and support. Community engagement and education play a vital role in preventing fraud and helping to keep our neighbourhoods safe.
Remember: Stop. Challenge. Protect. If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts, verify the request through a trusted source, and report any suspicious activity to your bank or Action Fraud.
