I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. It has been a very busy week for Police in Stevenage Town Centre. We have arrests, weapons, seizures and more in this update which we think you will enjoy reading.
On Friday 11 September 2026, Police were called to Stevenage Town Centre following reports of a weapon being seen during an altercation. Upon attendance, two males were arrested for several offences, and a knife was recovered from the scene.
The first suspect was arrested for Affray, Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Possession of Cannabis whilst the second suspect was arrested for Affray. Both suspects were taken to Stevenage Police Station in order to be interviewed in relation to the incident. Both have been bailed for further enquiries.
Police were conducting their proactive patrols in Stevenage Town Centre on Saturday 12 September 2026 when they came across a male who was believed to be breaching their Criminal Behaviour Order. Police had arrested the male for the offence and upon a search of the suspect, a small quantity of cannabis was found on their person. He was then further arrested for Possession of Cannabis. When taking the male back to Stevenage Custody another small amount of cannabis was found concealed in a sock. The suspect has been bailed for the Criminal Behaviour Order whilst further enquiries continue and he received a Community Resolution for the cannabis.
On Sunday 13 of September 2026, Police had attended Stevenage Town Centre and had stopped and searched a male. During the search, a small amount of cannabis was found and the offender became abusive, making racist comments directed at the officer. As a result, the suspect had been arrested for Racially Aggravated Public Order, Possession of a Cannabis and Breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order. The suspect was transported to Stevenage Police Custody for questioning, whereby he was bailed pending further enquiries.
Recently, we have completed another check of all of the knife bins located in Stevenage. These bins allow people to anonymously surrender any weapons that they may have and in turn, takes knives and other forms of weapons off the streets. This is in an attempt to reduce knife crime and keep the public safe. We have had a smashing result from the knife bins with the following being surrendered;
- X60 Weapons.
Most were kitchen knives, however we also found;
- X1 Knuckle duster
- X1 Zombie knife
- X1 hunting knife
- An Airsoft Gun
I am pleased to see these weapons surrendered peacefully rather than on our streets. With initiatives like this, we can prevent crime on a larger scale and I believe that we will see some more great outcomes in the future thanks to these programs.
Police have conducted more speeding operations on St Georges Way in an attempt to crack down on speeding in the area. As a result, a further four tickets have been issued and the drivers now face points and fines. Many more have also been given words of advice.
One individual had decided to shout abuse at the officer conducting the speeding operation before speeding off. Upon completing checks, it turned out that the driver of the motor did not have a valid MOT. The registered keeper has been sent a notice of intended prosecution for Driving a Vehicle Without a Valid MOT and Driving Without Due Care and Attention. Abuse of our officers will not be tolerated, and you may be dealt with in court.
Due to the success of the recent speed enforcements on St Georges Way, Town Centre officers were asked to conduct another speed enforcement, this time on Watton Road. Although not in the town centre, the work done in the area has allowed for success elsewhere. As a result of the operation, another two speeding tickets have been issued. Both drivers have been reported for the offences and are likely to receive points and a fine or a speed awareness course.
After conducting these speeding operations, Police were stationed upon Canterbury Way when they came across a woman driving a vehicle whilst using her mobile phone. The motor was stopped and the driver was reported for the incident.
Operation Scootherts sees even more results as a result of our officers’ proactive patrols seizing more E-scooters and E-bikes. This week, we have taken the following off the streets;
- X2 E-scooters
- X1 Ebike
One of the suspects were also stopped and searched, whereby a small quantity of cannabis was found on their person. They have been issued with a Community Resolution for the offence. All riders have been reported and all vehicles are being sent to the scrap yard.

The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account.
