In Coventry , Stoke and Wyken Neighbourhood Team are actively targeting illegal e-riders as part of a broader crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB). Residents have reported dangerous riding, including bikes speeding on pavements and jumping red lights.  

Local Enforcement Actions

• Targeted Patrols: Officers have increased presence in hotspot areas to intercept illegally modified e-bikes and off-road bikes.

• Seizures & Crushing:  Vehicles that cannot be legally registered are sent to be crushed.

The "Illegal" Criteria

Police will "put the brakes" on riders if their vehicle meets these conditions: 

• Speed: The e-bike motor provides assistance above 15.5mph or functions without the rider pedalling (twist-and-go).

• Power: The motor exceeds 250 Watts.

• Public Use: Private e-scooters are currently illegal to use on any public road or pavement in the West Midlands.
