One arrest made for hare coursing in Turves and Benwick

Dear Resident,

Yesterday, we received a call from a member of the public reporting suspected hare coursing happening in Turves.

The vehicle had left the area, but our Rural Crime Action Team caught up with it nearby.

The occupants didn’t fancy stopping to chat with us and tried to make off both in the car and on foot, but our officers eventually detained the three men in Benwick.

The car was seized and a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of breaching a court order he has in relation to hare coursing. The other two men were interviewed at the roadside – one of them was issued with a Community Protection Warning, and the other was given a Community Protection Notice.

Thank you to the individual who spotted something suspicious and contacted us. 

We will continue to target offenders, work closely with rural communities, and respond to reports to help protect our countryside.
