Residents told us they were concerned about nuisance vehicles, including e-bikes and e-scooters being ridden dangerously in public areas, as well as anti-social behaviour affecting the local community, particularly during the summer months when reports traditionally increase. We did:
Over the last three months, officers from Kent Police have carried out targeted patrols and proactive operations across Minster and the wider Isle of Sheppey to tackle nuisance vehicles and anti-social behaviour. These actions have included: Increasing high-visibility patrols in identified hotspot locations to deter anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to residents. Conducting dedicated enforcement days targeting nuisance e-bikes, e-scooters and vehicles being used illegally or dangerously. Stopping and seizing a number of e-scooters, e-bikes and uninsured vehicles following concerns raised by the public. Using information provided by residents to identify offenders and direct patrols to the areas most affected by nuisance vehicle use. Taking positive action against individuals involved in anti-social behaviour, including the misuse of catapults and behaviour causing fear or alarm within the community. Working with schools, partner agencies and the Child Centred Policing Team to educate young people and prevent repeat anti-social behaviour. Supporting diversionary activities and engagement opportunities for young people to reduce anti-social behaviour and encourage positive community involvement. Have worked with other agencies to reduce ASB amongst residents that have issues with alcohol/drug misuse and mental health issues. By taking a multi-agency approach, officers have ensured that other agencies such as housing associations, Kent Fire & Rescue, the local council and social services each take responsibility. Pulling together to deal with a range of problems that Kent Police can't deal with long term. The result:
A number of nuisance vehicles have been removed from the roads, enforcement action has been taken against offenders and increased patrols have helped deter anti-social behaviour across the area. Community intelligence continues to play a vital role in helping officers identify problems, target resources effectively and keep Minster-on-Sea a safe place to live, work and visit.
