Residents told us they were concerned about nuisance e-bikes, e-scooters and motorcycles being ridden dangerously in Sheerness, particularly around the High Street, Tesco, McDonald's, Beachfields and other town centre locations. You also raised concerns about anti-social behaviour involving groups gathering in public spaces, damage caused by catapults and behaviour affecting the local community. We did:
Over the past few months, Kent Police has carried out targeted patrols and dedicated days of action in identified hotspot areas. Working alongside information provided by residents, officers have: Increased high-visibility and plain-clothes patrols in areas affected by nuisance vehicles. Seized multiple nuisance e-bikes, e-scooters and illegally used vehicles, including a bike linked to repeated reports of anti-social riding around the town centre. Taken enforcement action against individuals involved in anti-social behaviour in Sheerness and Beachfields. Responded to reports of youths carrying catapults, identifying those responsible and removing several catapults from circulation. Increased patrols in known ASB hotspots to deter offending and provide reassurance to residents. Continued working with partners, schools and the Child Centred Policing Team to educate young people and prevent further anti-social behaviour. The result:
We have seen a reduction in some ASB reports, particularly around wildlife harm and catapult-related incidents, while ongoing enforcement against nuisance vehicles has removed problem bikes from the streets and helped make Sheerness a safer place for residents, visitors and businesses.
