Neighbourhood Policing Update: Action Taken on Vehicle Nuisance

You told us that vehicle nuisance and speeding are concerns in your community, and we want to reassure residents that we are listening and taking action.

On Monday 7 September, while also responding to emergency 999 calls, our Response officers were kept busy dealing with reports of nuisance vehicles in the area. Vehicle-related anti-social behaviour has been identified by local residents as a neighbourhood priority, and officers carried out targeted patrols to address these concerns.

Officers attended Westlode Street Car park in Spalding on two separate occasions, with both incidents resulting in vehicles being seized.

During the first incident, officers used their powers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 to seize a vehicle that was being used in an anti-social manner. Recent changes to legislation mean officers can now seize vehicles immediately without first issuing a warning. Anti-social vehicle use can include behaviours such as wheel spins, excessive revving, racing, and other driving that causes nuisance or alarm to the community. In the second instance, a vehicle was seized due to having no insurance.

South Holland’s Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Callum Corder said: “Your reports matter. Please continue to report your concerns to us. We are listening to what residents are telling us, and where offences are identified we will take positive and robust action to tackle those responsible and keep our neighbourhoods safe."
