Vehicle Crime Prevention Advice

Dear Resident,

There has been an increase in vehicle thefts across the Oldham area. We would like to remind all vehicle owners to remain vigilant and take steps to protect their vehicles and property.

Thieves often target high-performance and desirable vehicles. Common methods include entering properties to locate vehicle keys or using electronic devices to capture and relay signals from keyless vehicle fobs kept inside homes.

Offenders frequently drive around residential areas looking for specific makes and models that are in high demand and have a high resale value. To reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

Always lock your vehicle and ensure your house doors and windows are secure, even when you are at home.

Remove all valuables from your vehicle, including garage door fobs and spare keys.

If your garage has an internal door leading into your home, ensure it offers the same level of security as your external doors.

Keep vehicle keys away from doors, windows and letterboxes.

Store vehicle keys, including spare keys, in a Faraday pouch or signal-blocking bag to help prevent relay theft.

Consider using a visible steering wheel lock, which acts as both a deterrent and an additional layer of security.
