August update from Willenhall Neighbourhood Team

Good afternoon

I just wanted to give you an update on what the team have been doing during August.

It’s been another busy month with the team making a number of arrests for offences, including shop theft, assault, harassment and domestic violence.

We executed a warrant at a factory unit in the Willenhall area and seized 350 cannabis plants which resulted in a male being charged with producing cannabis.

We seized several vehicles being used illegally including for no insurance and a vehicle involved in crime.

The team have carried out several patrols in areas experiencing incidents of ASB and often our patrols have been conducted in partnership with Community Protection Officers from Walsall Council. One of the areas we have focused on is Willenhall Memorial Park and Willenhall Town Centre. We are also tackling incidents of ASB in the Gough Street and Albion Road area and have worked with partners to install cameras in the area. 

We are pleased to say that we have now established a new StreetWatch group in the Willenhall Memorial Park area. The group have already been out on their first patrol. On behalf of me, the team and West Midlands Police I would like to thank our new volunteers for their support and commitment to making our area safer. Operation Advance comes to Walsall 

On 28th August Operation Advance returned to the borough. Op Advance visits each local policing area in the West Midlands and August was Walsall’s turn. We had extra police resources in place, including teams from our traffic, dogs and mounted units as part of intensified activity targeting issues we know cause concern to you such as crime, anti-social behaviour and drugs, across the borough.

In Willenhall our officers were joined by police horses Bruce and Yve on the beat in Willenhall town centre. 

Police Dog Tez - who is trained to sniff out drugs and firearms - was also on paw-trol alongside council protection officers in Willenhall and later joined Blakenall officers to help in a search for drugs.

We made nine arrests throughout the day. However, it wasn’t just about enforcement as we were involved in engagement within our local communities and intelligence gathering. Operation Advance allowed us to carry out intensive activity and build on work which is going on every day of the year to make Willenhall a great place to live, visit and work.
