Independent Community Scrutiny Panel - Information and Recruitment

The Greater Manchester Police Community Scrutiny Panel is a group of dedicated volunteers from across our communities who meet monthly to review police body-worn video footage and provide independent feedback.

Our panel members do not require specialist policing knowledge. Instead, we bring a community perspective, helping GMP understand how police interactions are viewed by the public. During our informal and constructive meetings, we review footage to consider questions such as:

Panel members make observations and recommendations, which are discussed with attending police officers, providing valuable context and opportunities for learning. Our feedback is then submitted to senior officers, who ensure that the findings are shared with the officers involved.

Importantly, the process is not one-way. At subsequent meetings, we receive updates on how our comments and recommendations have been considered, helping us understand the impact of our work and the improvements being made.

The panel's purpose is not to criticise policing, but to support continuous improvement, strengthen transparency, and help build trust and confidence between Greater Manchester Police and the communities it serves.

We are proud to play a small part in improving the excellent service already provided by GMP and ensuring that community voices remain at the heart of local policing.
