Protecting Our Communities: Significant Drugs Seizure in Sutton

At the end of August, some of you may have seen an article in the Sutton Guardian titled 'Sutton Beddington Lane aggravated burglary: Nine arrested'. You may also have noticed an increased police presence in the Beddington Lane area over a number of weeks.

Unfortunately, due to operational and investigative requirements, we have been unable to provide further information until now.

While responding to the reported burglary, Sutton officers discovered a significant cannabis cultivation site at a premises on Beddington Lane. The factory was highly sophisticated, well maintained and contained 632 cannabis plants at varying stages of maturity. The estimated street value of the plants is approximately £565,710.

Through conversations with residents, we know that concerns about drug use and drug-related crime remain a priority for many people in Sutton. I appreciate that some of you may be concerned to learn that a cannabis factory of this scale was operating within our borough.

Illegal drugs can have a devastating impact on communities and are often linked to wider criminality and anti-social behaviour. Thanks to the proactive work of Sutton officers, a substantial quantity of drugs has been removed from circulation, the activities of an organised crime group have been significantly disrupted, and further crime and anti-social behaviour have been prevented.

This result demonstrates our ongoing commitment to tackling organised crime, keeping communities safe and addressing the issues that matter most to local residents. We will continue to target those involved in drug-related offending and work to protect Sutton from the harm these activities cause.
