Bulletin 18 August 27 th – September 9 th 2026
Dear Residents In recent months there have been a number of burglaries where houses under renovation or being newly constructed have been targeted, In at least two recent cases copper water tanks have been removed which has also resulted in serious water damage to the property. The scrap value of copper has increase from just over £3,000 per tonne in 2025 to over £7,000 per tonne this year. A building site with tools, materials, plants and other machinery lying about can be very inviting to a thief. The site can also be used as a route to break into adjacent premises. You can reduce the risk of crime by sticking to the following guidelines: There is a generic guide for construction sites available at the following https://www.securedbydesign.com/images/CONSTRUCTION_SITE_SECURITY_GUIDE_A4_8pp.pdf Although this is aimed at large sites the points highlighted in the guide can be scaled down to meet the needs of a home extension. Erect scaffolds only when work is ready to begin and take the structure down as soon as work is finished .There are scaffolding alarms that are designed for scaffolding. Remove all ladders and climbing aids nightly and lock them away; if this is not possible, lock them in a horizontal position, taking care not to obstruct the footway Take action to prevent possible perpetrators and other members of the public getting access to neighbouring buildings by climbing on licensed scaffolding. Make sure unauthorised people cannot gain access to your site. Stop unauthorised people from climbing up any structure by using sheet material, overhangs or other methods. Put extra security lighting on the upper levels at night to deter climbing Display a contact board outside the site at all times giving names and telephone numbers of staff who can easily be contacted to respond to any concerns of the police. Note your responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007) regarding site security. Ensure that any links into the main dwelling can be secured to prevent easy access into your home. High value tools are often stolen, however when recovering such items, the items are not returned to the lawful owner as they are not marked or recorded to assist their return. CRIME REPORTS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
Our Response Team and Safer Neighbourhood Team deal with a variety of incidents. Here are a few they dealt with since the last Bulletin.
There were 24 Arrests in the period August 24th 2026 to September 6th 2026 : Domestic Abuse / Violent Domestic Abuse 9 , Child at Risk 3 , Prescribed Limit Offence 1 , Alcohol Related 1 , Criminal Damage 2 , Sexual Offence 1 , Drug Related 2, Stalking 1, Wanted 1, Road Related 1, Attempt Robbery 1, Violent Crime Public Place 1 .
On August 27th a male driver was arrested in Warlingham after being found slumped over the wheel of a car because he failed to provide a breath test.
In Smallfield on August 29th the male driver of a car involved in a single vehicle road traffic collision fled the scene but was located a short time later. He failed a roadside breath test, provided a positive indication for cocaine and was arrested for this and for driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

LINGFIELD, BURSTOW AND BLINDLEY HEATH
Burglary Residential including Sheds and Garages
Featherstone, Blindley Heath. Between midnight August 28th and 22.30 August 31st a house was entered after the glass in a rear conservatory door was broken. An untidy search took place and cash and jewellery were stolen (PR45260105911).
Church Road, Burstow. Between 07.00 and 14.30 September 6th the entrance gates to a property were rammed open and the glass in a large glass door were smashed to gain entry. CCTV cameras were ripped down and were last recording around 12.13. Cash, a watch, jewellery and car keys were stolen together with a car. The car was a black Vauxhall Mokka Turbo AU index GP73HWL. The letter M on the rear of the car had been damaged previously making it read as Nokka (PR45260108625).
Vehicle Crime Featherstone, Blindley Heath – Theft. Between 08.30 August 29th and 11.00 August 30th index plates KS63LVT were stolen from a car (PR45260105880).
Station Road, Lingfield – Theft. Between 15.30 September 7th and 08.20 September 8th the door handle of a car was removed and fuel stolen from inside the vehicle (PR45260109491).
GODSTONE AND BLETCHINGLEY
Burglary Residential including Sheds and Garages Coneybury, Bletchingley. Between 02.50 and 03.00 September 1st an unlocked shed was broken into and a black slim line Talaria Sting R electric motor bike was stolen (PR45260106559).
Criminal Damage Manor Close, Godstone .Around 18.55 September 3rd two males arrived in a grey car and threw two rocks through the ground floor window of a house and the rear window of a car (PR45260107474).
OXTED
Burglary Residential including Sheds and Garages Memorial Close, Oxted. Between 18.00 August 31st and 18.19 September 1st two teens have gained entry to a property either through an open window or using a spare key outside the property which was stolen (PR45260106433).
Theft
Chapel Road, Oxted. Around 00.18 August 28th a storage container was broken into and around £8-£10,000 worth of tools were stolen (PR45260104794).
CATERHAM, CHALDON, KENLEY AND WHYTELEAFE
Burglary Residential including Sheds and Garages
Doctors Lane, Chaldon. Between 06.00 and 22.32 August 27th the window in a rear bi-fold door of a house was smashed. An untidy search took place and it believed nothing was stolen although the suspicion was that the suspect may have been looking for the keys of a car parked in the drive. CCTV images revealed a possible suspect at 14.33 describes as a white male, early 20’s, dark short hair wearing a black puffer gilet jacket, light blue jeans and white trainers (PR45260104614).
Criminal Damage
Paddock Barn Farm, Caterham. Overnight August 27th to 28th the chain on a gate securing business premises was broken and entry gained although nothing was stolen (PR45260104816).
Vehicle Crime
Croydon Road, Caterham – Keyless Theft. Around 23.21 August 29th a black Ford Puma index EF72BZH was stolen from a driveway (PR45260105433).
Timber Hill Road, Caterham – Attempt Theft. Overnight August 30th to 31st the nearside door handle of a car was tampered with and the locking mechanism was remover (PR45260105879).
Coulsdon Road, Caterham – Theft. Overnight September 2nd to 3rd a silver Mini One index BF54ZSG was stolen (PR45260107108).
Godstone Road, Whyteleafe – Keyless Theft. Around 12.15 September 1st a black Toyota Landcruiser index RKO723 was stolen from as hotel car park (PR45260106076).
Fenmore Road, Kenley – Theft. Overnight August 31st to September 1st a blue Corsa Griffin index LT19YFX was stolen from a driveway (PR45260106274).
TATSFIELD
Burglary Residential including Sheds and Garages
Ship Hill, Tatsfield. Between 20.00 August 27th and 10.00 August 28th suspects entered an empty property and removed the water tank causing damage to carpets and the front door in the process (PR45260104786).
Vehicle Crime
Clarks Lane, Tatsfield – Theft. Overnight August 28th to 29th a grey Range Rover Evoque index B25DEM was stolen (PR45260105232).
