Hello Beckton, We have seen a high volume of theft-related incidents across the ward this week. Please make sure to keep a close eye on your valuables when you are out and about. Read on to see the details of what happened, where, and when. Assault 07/09/2026 (Sainsbury's): A verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight inside the store. There appears to be one clear aggressor involved. The suspects left the scene in a vehicle, and our investigation is currently ongoing.07/09/2026 (Parry Avenue): A road rage incident occurred where the aggressor made threats, spat, and threw a glass bottle. CCTV footage has been reviewed, and vehicle registration numbers have been successfully obtained. Interference with a Vehicle 05/09/2026 (Premier Inn Car Park): Two vehicles were tampered with, but thankfully, nothing was stolen from either of them. Theft from a Vehicle 03/09/2026 (Premier Inn Car Park): A work van was broken into, and a quantity of tools was stolen. Robbery / GBH 06/09/2026 (Co-op near Gallions Reach DLR): A male entered the shop and stole two bottles of red wine. When challenged by a member of staff, the suspect stabbed them with a screwdriver before fleeing. The suspect was quickly apprehended and taken into custody. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening. Theft from a Person 05/09/2026 (Neatscourt Road near Beckton District Park): A mobile phone was snatched by a suspect operating on a bicycle.05/09/2026 (Beckton Park): A second cycle-enabled phone snatch occurred in the park. This is highly likely to be the same suspect from the Neatscourt Road incident.03/09/2026 (Location unspecified): Two youths intentionally bumped into a woman while she was tending to her dog, using the distraction to steal a mobile phone straight from her pocket.08/09/2026 (Sainsbury's Car Park): A purse was stolen from a handbag while the victim was distracted unloading a shopping trolley. Theft of a Vehicle 04/09/2026 (Hornet Way): A Toyota Prius was stolen after the owner left the keys inside the vehicle. General Crime Prevention Advice While hindsight is 20/20, a few simple everyday precautions could have prevented several of these incidents: Clear your vehicle: Always remove all valuables from your vehicle when leaving it parked. Never leave your keys inside the car, even for a moment.Protect everyday items: Try not to become complacent with your personal belongings. Even if you think there is nothing of high value inside your purse or wallet, a thief may still steal it for a small amount of cash. Save yourself the immense headache of replacing IDs and bank cards by keeping them secure and out of sight.Lock up: Please ensure your vehicles are locked. Opportunist thieves regularly walk down streets testing door handles, they only keep doing it because they occasionally find an unlocked car.De-escalate: If you are confronted by an aggressive person looking for a conflict, please walk away.
