🚪🏃 Knock Door Run (Knock and Run) Awareness

1️⃣ What do we want the public to know?

We have received reports of excessive "knock door run" behaviour in local communities. These incidents are not simply involving a quick knock on a door. In several cases, individuals have been repeatedly banging loudly on doors and running away, often during the evening, causing significant distress and alarm to residents.

Whilst some may view this as a prank, this type of behaviour can have a serious impact, particularly on elderly or vulnerable residents, those living alone, families with young children, or anyone who may fear that someone genuinely requires assistance at their door. Repeated incidents can amount to anti-social behaviour and may result in police intervention and engagement with parents, guardians or schools.

This issue links directly to our local priority of tackling anti-social behaviour. Local officers have already begun identifying those involved, and Anti-Social Behaviour warning letters have been issued where appropriate. We will continue to investigate reports, identify offenders and take positive action until the behaviour stops.

2️⃣ How do we want the public to feel?

We want residents to feel reassured that reports of this behaviour are taken seriously. Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own home, and the Safer Neighbourhood Team is committed to addressing behaviour that negatively impacts our communities and quality of life.

3️⃣ What do we want the public to do?

If you experience or witness knock door run incidents, particularly where individuals are repeatedly banging on doors, causing distress, or targeting specific properties, please report it to us. If you have CCTV, doorbell camera footage, descriptions of those involved, or details of times and locations, this information can be invaluable in helping us identify those responsible and take appropriate action.
