Willington Community Speed Watch (CSW) August summary
"During August the village CSW team have held 4 sessions. All were held within 30 mph speed zones, with 2 sessions on Findern Lane, 1 session outside the village hall on Twyford Road and 1 session opposite Ivy Close on The Castleway. Two sessions were held in the early morning and two sessions were held in the late afternoon/early evening. Here are some headline statistics from the August sessions. The trend of recording greater speeding levels this year in compassion to 2025 has sadly continued. During the August sessions the CSW team recorded a total of 520 vehicles with 57 reported to the police CSW admin team for excess speeding. It was the first contact from the police due to a CSW report for 53 of the 57 drivers contacted, while for 2 drivers it was their second and for another 2 drivers it was their third time. Of the 57 drivers contacted 4 were local to the village. The top speed recorded from each of the sessions was above 40mph, with a top speed of 45mph recorded on Findern Lane. The average percentage of vehicles reported during August was 11%, with the highest percentage recorded in the session outside of the village hall at around 15%. Including the August data the annual excess speeding rate through the village for 2026 is currently 5.2%, well above the 2.3% from 2025 and the average across Derbyshire. The village CSW data is used by Derbyshire Constabulary and the local councils to aid decisions about road safety measures. Thanks to all the residents who have stopped to chat and to the majority of drivers who do support the safety of our village by adhering to the speed limits on our local roads."
