Welcome to this month's Sutton Neighbourhood Policing Team Update

As we move through another busy month, I would like to thank our residents, partners and local communities for your continued support and engagement. Neighbourhood policing is at its strongest when we work together, and the information, concerns and feedback you share with us play a vital role in helping us keep Sutton safe.

In this update, we highlight some of the work undertaken by your local neighbourhood teams, including crime prevention initiatives, enforcement activity, community engagement events and ongoing efforts to address the issues that matter most to our communities. We remain committed to tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and violence, while maintaining a visible and accessible presence across the borough.

Unless otherwise stated, all crime reduction figures quoted in this update are compared with the previous four-week period.

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour

We know that many of you have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour in parks and open spaces, and the impact this can have on people feeling safe in their local area. In response, your ward officers have carried out high-visibility patrols across the borough, including at Royston Park, Rosehill Park, St Helier Park, Overton Park and Roundshaw Downs.

These patrols have helped increase police visibility, resulted in arrests and the seizure of an illegal e-bike, and contributed to a 40% reduction in anti-social behaviour within our priority open spaces.

Addressing Persistent Community Concerns

Officers from the Sutton Central Neighbourhood Team recently secured a civil injunction relating to an address that had been the source of ongoing anti-social behaviour and suspected drug-related activity. This issue had a significant impact on residents, and the injunction is an important step towards improving the quality of life for those living nearby.

This demonstrates our commitment to using all available powers and working with partners to address behaviour that causes harm to our communities.

Burglary Reduction

Throughout August, officers have undertaken targeted patrols using crime data and intelligence to tackle overnight burglaries across Sutton. This focused activity has contributed to a 27% reduction in burglaries compared with the previous four-week period and a 23% reduction financial year-to-date.

We understand the significant impact burglary can have and will continue to pursue offenders while providing crime prevention advice to help protect homes.

Tackling Motor Vehicle Crime

Vehicle crime remains a concern for many residents. In response, neighbourhood officers across the borough have carried out targeted patrols and hosted crime prevention events to provide practical advice on protecting vehicles from theft.

These combined efforts have contributed to a 16% reduction in theft of motor vehicles and a 12% reduction in theft from motor vehicles. Thank you to everyone who has worked with us to report concerns and help prevent crime in their neighbourhoods.

Robbery

Keeping people safe when they are out and about in Sutton remains a priority. Throughout August, we continued to focus our efforts on tackling robbery by using intelligence-led policing and targeted patrols.

By deploying a combination of uniformed and plain-clothes officers in key locations, robbery across the borough has reduced by 45% compared with the previous four-week period.
