Good morning,

This is a important safety reminder to ensure your vehicles are securely locked and that all valuable items are removed or kept entirely out of sight.

Local reports show an increase in both thefts from motor vehicles and vehicle interference. Taking these quick precautions can significantly reduce the risk of your vehicle being targeted.

Please stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Call 999 in an emergency, or use the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
