Derwenthorpe: ASB Update |
||
|
Dear residents,
Now that we are coming to the end of summer we wish to share an update following the concerns raised to North Yorkshire Police earlier in the year regarding high levels of youth related anti-social behaviour. As agreed in the residents association meeting in May we held a meeting post summer holidays to review this matter and see what progress has been made. We are happy to share that over the last three months we have seen a 64% drop in ASB reports on the Derwenthorpe estate. We hope this is an accurate reflection and those effected have felt a significant improvement.
At the DRA meeting there was also mention of restorative justice and youth clubs to be promoted, in hopes of offering young people a positive way to spend their time. With this in mind, we have organised for a diversionary boxing programme to be held free of charge for local youths to get involved in and an opportunity to give back to the community through engaging in a community based project. This will hopefully be up and running over the next few weeks and we strongly encourage any interested young people to come and give it a go. Finally we have placed a temporary surveillance camera at the play park which was a particular hot spot for ASB, this now offers us the opportunity to view the park remotely and provide CCTV of an incidents reported on the play park.
We would like to thank residents for their support in tackling this issue and making those reports so we can be in the right place at the right time. We will continue to regularly patrol the area and take robust action where necessary, alongside working with our partner agencies to help prevent this issue from remerging again in the future.
