Community Update from Your Tooting Broadway Neighbourhood Policing Team

Hello Residents,

Tooting Broadway is one of the busiest parts of our community, with large numbers of people visiting the area every day due to the Tube station, local shops, and St George's Hospital. We also know that crime can increase during the summer months, which is why your local Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working hard to prevent crime, tackle anti-social behaviour, and keep the area safe.

To support this work, Operation Trae was launched in May 2026. The operation focuses on increasing police visibility, targeting crime hotspots at peak times, and responding directly to the concerns raised by local residents.

We would like to thank everyone who has completed the Met Engage Survey. Your feedback helps shape our policing priorities. The top three issues identified by residents were:

Shoplifting

Since May 2026, we have been carrying out a range of activities to address these concerns and improve community safety.

Results from May to August 2026

Tackling Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour

Conducted 2 Live Facial Recognition operations at Tooting Broadway Station, resulting in 12 arrests.

Carried out 3 passive drugs dog operations at Tooting Broadway Tube Station. With the assistance of Police Dog Jensen, officers:

Arrested 8 individuals
Conducted 72 stop and searches
Issued 18 out-of-court disposals for cannabis possession
Seized quantities of cocaine, MDMA, amphetamine, and other drugs

Executed 5 drug warrants at addresses across the ward to disrupt drug-related criminal activity and bring offenders to justice.

Issued 13 Community Protection Warnings to individuals responsible for anti-social behaviour. Two of these have been escalated to Community Protection Notices, providing further powers to address ongoing offending.

Obtained 1 Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) for a prolific shoplifter operating in the area.

Submitted a further Criminal Behaviour Order application to the Crown Prosecution Service for an offender charged with 11 shoplifting offences, who is currently remanded in custody.

During this period, officers arrested 71 suspects and carried out 128 stop and searches.

Additional Activity

We have also delivered a number of targeted operations to address wider concerns:

Conducted 2 traffic operations within the ward:

A proactive operation on Garratt Lane targeting criminals using the road network and dangerous driving, resulting in 3 arrests and 5 traffic offence reports.
A joint operation with Home Office colleagues focusing on delivery riders operating around McDonald's, resulting in 3 arrests and the seizure of 3 delivery mopeds.

Ran a pickpocketing prevention operation in June.

Supported a shoplifting week of action in August, resulting in 4 arrests.

Assisted CID in identifying a burglary suspect from Ring doorbell footage who was believed to be linked to multiple offences across Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway. Following identification, local officers located and arrested the suspect for burglary.

Looking Ahead

While the summer months are coming to an end, our work continues. We remain committed to tackling the issues that matter most to residents, maintaining a visible presence in the community, and working with local people to keep Tooting Broadway a safe place to live, work, and visit.
