Burglary crime prevention advice

With the darker evenings coming, remember to protect your home against burglars:

Secure every floor of your home—not just the ground floor. Burglars will use garages, sheds, bins, fences, and drainpipes to reach upper windows and balconies. 

Keep ladders, tools and anything that could help someone climb or force entry locked away and out of sight. 

Make sure side gates are locked, and valuables cannot be seen through windows. 

If you have a video doorbell or CCTV, check it's working properly, recording and that your subscription is active if cloud storage is part of your package. 

Use timer switches or smart lighting if you are out, especially as the evenings get darker. 

Keep vehicle keys far away from doors and windows, and consider using a signal-blocking pouch, known as a Faraday Bag, if you own a keyless vehicle.
