Working Together to Keep Our Community Safe

Dear Residents, 

After receiving a report from a local resident, I have now recovered and seized a vehicle that had been abandoned on the Saxon Shore Way. It appeared as if the vehicle had been there for a period of a few days, but was safely collected by myself, other officers, and the recovery team today. 

My enquiries established that the vehicle was recorded as SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) but had nevertheless been driven and left on a public highway, making it liable for seizure. The vehicle had also become stuck in a waterlogged ditch in an area where there is no legitimate vehicular access.

I'd like to say a big thank you to the local residents and landowners who helped with this job. Several people kindly allowed access across their land, which made recovering the vehicle possible. Community support like this makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated.

A quantity of BB pellets were seen inside the vehicle. While there is no confirmed link at this stage, their presence raises concerns that those responsible may also have been involved in poaching or other wildlife-related activity in the area.

Wildlife Crime Issues

The discovery of BB pellets inside the vehicle has raised concerns about potential poaching or other wildlife-related offences. While there is nothing to confirm this at this stage, I will be making further enquiries and remain committed to tackling offences that impact our countryside and wildlife.

Nuisance Vehicles
The vehicle had been abandoned in a remote location after being driven off-road, causing concern for local residents and landowners. Removing this vehicle has dealt with this specific nuisance vehicle that was likely to reoffend.

Road Safety
The vehicle was being used despite being declared SORN and was ultimately abandoned after being driven into unsuitable terrain and

no lawful vehicular access. Taking action against vehicles being used unlawfully helps keep our roads, public rights of way and rural areas safer for everyone.
