Burbage Police Weekly Update. Residential Burglary, E-Scooter Seized, Events This Weekend And School Parking.

We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage this week. 

Reported Crime and Appeals

A report where a white Ford transit van was stolen containing tools, from Wolvey Road between 17:00 – 18:00 on the 27th of August, the van was then found on Welbeck Avenue just after 18:00. If you have any CCTV in this area of a white Ford transit, please get in touch. 26000516115

Report of two persons running from an address on Sketchley Road and in the area from 22:30 - 23:05 on the 30th of August. As a result, it was established that a residential burglary had occurred where suspects have snapped a gate lock and entered a property via an upstairs bedroom window (forced entry). Items including jewellery and 2 safes taken whilst the residents were on holiday. If you have any CCTV near the Sketchley Court/Sketchley Road junction around this time, please take a look and get in touch. Report from Sketchley Meadows industrial estate where a break has taken place on the night of the 31st into the 1st where a hard drive was taken. A further report from the Severn Trent water site where a quantity of tools taken. 

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Since our last update on the 25th of August, we have received 40 calls to Police. 4 were emergency and 7 were priority calls. These calls were made up of mainly transport, concerns for safety and monitored intruder alarms. 

Electric E-Bike seized from an address in Burbage under S59 due to heavily involved in cases of Anti-social behaviour. 

Motorist arrested following a vehicle stop on Hinckley Road for driving whilst over the prescribed limit of alcohol. Incident occurred at 19:00 on the 30th of August. 

We continue to complete patrols around school areas. Today we visited Sketchley Primary. We spoke to several motorists regarding parking on junctions. We also witnessed a near miss, where a motorist decided to drive on a footpath whilst the children were crossing the road. Whilst the driver fully acknowledged the stupity of their actions, these are the types of incidents, that with a little more time, care and consideration, could be avoided. 

As per resident’s requests, we will be completing some speed safety work over the coming week in Burbage. This work is done to raise awareness and to try and remind motorists of road safety when driving in and through Burbage. 

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

As reported, there has been one residential burglary whilst residents were on holiday. Please consider home alarms, window alarms and other crime reduction methods if you are going away.

We will be at Burbage Parish Council, Millennium Hall, LE102HF, from 12:00 - 16:00 on Sunday 6th of September, where we will have our range of crime reduction items. We are holding this event in preparation for the darker nights where crime such as residential burglary and vehicle crime can increase. Items such as window alarms, light timers, fence cactus spikes, PIR alarms and RFID wallets are all simple but great crime reduction items. During October/November and December of 2025, areas such as the Three Pots and Flowers estate saw increased residential burglary where items such as cash and jewellery were targeted, so this work is part of what we do to try and ensure history does not repeat itself. 

If you own a business, whether it be on an industrial estate or independent high street business, please consider your security, especially over bank holidays, weekends or general holidays, as this is when these premises can be targeted. Building sites will often get targeted over weekends where vans and tools will be targeted so consider what is being left lying around. Please DO NOT leave cash in businesses ,out of hours or over weekends.
