Community Safety Alert: Beware of Phone Snatch Thefts

We are seeing an increase in reports of criminals targeting people on busy streets, near transport hubs, shopping areas, and other crowded locations. Thieves often ride bicycles, e-bikes, mopeds, or approach on foot before quickly grabbing mobile phones from unsuspecting victims.

Those most at risk include people who are distracted while using their phones, visitors unfamiliar with the area, and vulnerable individuals.

How to Stay Safe

✅ Keep your phone out of sight when not in use.
✅ Stay aware of your surroundings, especially near roads and busy streets.
✅ Avoid standing close to the kerb while using your phone.
✅ Use headphones or hands-free devices where possible.
✅ Be cautious when texting, making calls, or using maps in public.
✅ Ensure your phone is password protected and has location tracking enabled.
✅ Avoid displaying expensive phones unnecessarily.

If Your Phone Is Stolen

📞 Call 999 immediately if the theft is in progress or has just occurred.
📱 Use a tracking app to locate or remotely lock your device.
🚫 Contact your network provider to block the handset and SIM card.
📄 Obtain the phone's IMEI number and report the theft to the police.
