Here’s the latest on mobile phone theft in your area. 📱 Community Safety Update - Phone Snatching
Good Morning everyone,
Following a prolonged period with no reported phone snatches in the Amhurst area especially, we have recently received a report of a phone theft that occurred during the morning commuting period on Bank Holiday Monday in the Amhurst Road area. The suspect was reported to be wearing a face covering.
While incidents of this nature remain relatively infrequent, this serves as a timely reminder for all of us to remain vigilant when using mobile phones in public spaces, particularly during busy commuting hours.
✅ A few simple precautions can help reduce the opportunity for thieves:
Be aware of your surroundings when using your phone in public.
Avoid standing close to the kerb while using your device.
Keep hold of your phone securely and remain alert to passing cyclists, e-scooters, or mopeds.
Consider waiting until you are in a shop, workplace, or secure location before checking messages or making calls where possible.
Enable security features such as passcodes, biometric locks, and device tracking.
Please remember that victims of phone theft are never to blame. These crimes are committed by opportunistic offenders, and the responsibility always lies with the person committing the offence. By sharing prevention advice, we hope to help residents protect both their devices and the valuable personal information stored on them.

 We’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals. These officers are working hard to bear down on mobile phone crime in London, arresting phone thieves on the street, shutting down vendors trading stolen devices and dismantling international criminal gangs. We have now almost halved phone theft in Westminster, where it was most concentrated, following an intensive crackdown which has seen hundreds of arrests and thousands of phones recovered. After campaigning by the Met, Apple has also made a global change to its security system that better ensures stolen phones cannot be reused or resold – disrupting a highly organised international business model worth millions. But we know there is more to do. That’s why we’re stepping up our use of technology, increasing our operations and working with phone companies to make it less appealing for criminals to commit these crimes in the first place.
