Burglars don't see an open window as ventilation, they see it as an opportunity for entry into your home.
If you are leaving your home for any amount of time, even 5minutes, please close windows and lock doors.
Going Away, here are a few pointers
Secure all entry points. Windows, doors, garden gates, sheds & garages. when using window locks remove the keys & don't leave door keys hanging from the inside lock. Don’t leave expensive items on display, move items away from windows.
Check security lights, house alarms & CCTV are in good working order.
Create the illusion of being at home. Use timer plugs for evening lamps, fake/simulated TV boxes, ask family/neighbour/friend to remove any post from door/porch and if your driveway is empty they might welcome the chance of off road parking. Cancel milk & regular deliveries.
Don't advertise your absence. Savepublicsocial media posts until you are home.
