Extra powers being used following stabbing |
||
|
Dear Resident, We are writing to let you know that we will be using Section 60 powers in part of Birmingham today and overnight after a stabbing earlier this week. A man was sadly pronounced dead in hospital earlier today (28 August) following the stabbing in Hodge Hill on Tuesday, which we believe to be a targeted attack. A murder investigation has started, and we are appealing for witnesses and information. Click here to read more details. The Section 60 powers will be in place in the area on the map, from now until 3am tomorrow (29 August). Section 60 powers allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds. Haroon Chughtai, Superintendent for the local area, said: “As always, our priority is keeping everyone safe and preventing disorder. “We understand the concern this incident has caused, and we don’t use these powers lightly. “There will be an increased police presence in the area over the weekend to offer reassurance to the local community and listen to any concerns. “ Find out more about Stop and Search and why we use the powers here. If you saw or heard anything, or have any footage which could help our investigation, call us on 101 quoting log 6000 of 25 August. In an emergency dial 999.
