Attempted Shed Break-In Appeal – Askham Lane, York

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following an attempted shed break-in on Askham Lane, York.

The incident occurred sometime between 6:30pm on Tuesday 26 August 2026 and 11:30am on Wednesday 27 August 2026. Unknown person(s) have caused a small amount of damage to a shed in an apparent attempt to gain entry. Thankfully, the shed was not entered and no property was stolen.

We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during the relevant times, or who may have CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage that could assist our enquiries.

Sheds and outbuildings can be attractive targets for thieves. Residents are encouraged to consider the following security measures:

Ensure sheds and outbuildings are secured with good-quality locks and hasps.

Consider fitting a shed alarm or security lighting.

Mark and record valuable property, including bicycles and power tools.

Keep valuable items out of sight where possible.

Regularly check sheds, garages and outbuildings for signs of damage or tampering.

Install CCTV or video doorbells where appropriate to provide additional reassurance and evidence opportunities.
